Hymen reconstruction surgery, also known as hymen surgery, hymenoplasty surgery or hymen restoration, is the surgical repair of the hymen. Hymen gets ruptured by having sexual intercourse or participating in impact sports. In some cultures including the Indian culture some of the people still expect the bride to be a virgin at the time of the marriage. The best time to get this surgery is about one month before the marriage. In this surgery the torn edges of the hymen are joined and nobody can make out if the hymen has been repaired.

Two types of hymen repair surgeries are done – A purely cosmetic procedure in which a membrane without blood supply is created. This operation will create a barrier to penile penetration but may not result in bleeding after intercourse. This surgery is normally done 1 month before the marriage. In the second type of surgery a flap of the vaginal lining is taken alongwith its blood supply to create a new hymen. This surgery is done 2-3 months before the marriage. This second type of surgery would result in bleeding at the time of intercourse.
